Abstract:

Seismic data has been long and successfully used for building field models. Development of the structural framework, sequence- and seismic-stratigraphic interpretation, forecasting of reservoir properties in the inter-well space are the habitual areas of seismic studies.

Recently, a new area in the use of seismic data has been actively developing: the building of geomechanics models of the fields.

Geomechanics factors play an important part at all phase of a reservoir’s life. This means that these factors should be evaluated and managed from the forecasting of risks of individual well trajectories at the field and to maximizing production.

Geomechanics models are vitally important for the planning of well drilling in order to forecast potential complications in drilling. The well bore stability together with the porous pressure determine limitations on the drilling mud weight required for safe drilling.

A reliable geomechanics model is also absolutely indispensable in planning the hydraulic fracturing of reservoirs in order to enhance hydrocarbon production. Exploration of hydrocarbons in reservoirs with complicated structure and difficult conditions and their subsequent development require more advanced and innovative methods. Thus, the efficient use of seismic data for building geomechanics models of the fields is an extremely important question.
