Abstract

As Russia’s oil and gas sector evolves, the relationship between vertically integrated oil and gas companies and oilfield service providers is undergoing significant change. Russian companies increasingly focus on exploration, production, refining and marketing as their core business, while divesting their service assets. In his presentation, TNK-BP COO Tim Summers examines the changing nature of this relationship using the example of TNK-BP.

Biography

Tim Summers is Chief Operating Officer, TNK-BP.

From April 2006 – present, Tim Summers is Chief Operating Officer of TNK-BP, Russia’s top-three and globally top-ten private sector oil producer, with 70,000+ staff.

From April 2005 - April 2006, Tim was Executive Assistant to Lord Browne, BP Group Chief Executive.

From 2002-2005, Tim was one of BP’s Business Unit Leaders, based in Scotland, running one of 24 Global Business Units in Exploration and Production.  He was also Deputy Chair of the “Step Change” cross-industry safety body.

Tim joined BP as a Petroleum Engineer in 1989, with a BSc (Hons) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Manchester.  He has worked in a variety of operational, commercial and HQ roles in BP including offshore production, well engineering, gas marketing, oil trading, business development, BP Solar, and general operations management.   International experience includes the Caspian region (Azerbaijan and the surrounding countries) and Colombia, where he lived from 2000-2002.  He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and a Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
