Issues of remaining oil reserves localization for field development optimization and workover selection based on 3D simulation modelling and engineering techniques

The current stage of the oil and gas industry is characterized by the global application of computer technologies. At the same time, 3D simulation modelling, which should provide remaining oil reserves localization on mature fields, in practice is faced with many challenges.

Abstract:

The lecture considers the most common errors in modelling and limitations of modern reservoir simulators with examples of oil fields.

 

The lecture offers some recommendations to improve the quality of modelling, reduce risks in workover selection and development optimization as well as analytical methods of  oil reserves allocation estimates for workovers.

Also the lecture discusses methods of formalization and automation of procedures related to improving of oil field development efficiency.

Ville Syrtlanov is PhD with 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.

 

After graduating with honors in 1990 Bashkir State University (Ufa) with a specialty in theoretical physics, he worked in various positions at the Russian Academy of Sciences, Tyumen State Oil and Gas University, the research center of JSC "TNK", JSC "LUKOIL", "Gazpromneft NTC», BakerHughes. Since 2015 he is an expert of reservoir engineering in Weatherford. Vil is the current expert in SRC Rosnedra.

 

Vil is the author of over 70 papers and books about modeling and simulation of oil and gas reservoirs.

He participated and led the work of geological modeling, reservoir simulation and field development projects more than 100 oil and gas fields.In recent years he engaged in the innovative approaches development in modeling, training on modeling, software development and information systems related to the automation of model creation and monitoring of field development.
