Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and Russian Society of Subsoil Experts (OERN) in cooperation with FGU State Commission on Mineral Reserves (GKZ) jointly conducting:

1)      Applied Technology Workshop Petroleum Reserves Estimation: “Sharing the Vision”

Workshop Dates: March 28 to March 30, 2011
Workshop Venue: Aerostar Hotel, Petrovskiy Conference Hall, Moscow, Russia.

2)      Course of Lectures: “Managing Your Business using PRMS (Petroleum Resources Management System)”

Course Dates: March 31st-April 1st, 2011.
Course Venue: Aerostar Hotel, Pulkovo Conference Hall, Moscow, Russia.

 

Workshop Description

The “Vision” that will be shared over the Workshop duration is the principles underlying the Petroleum Resources Management System (PRMS) and its application as an international reporting standard.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE and the FGU State Commission on Mineral Reserves (GKZ) the Workshop’s Program Committee wishes to further the mutual understanding of the technical issues related to reserves assessment and resource evaluations. Through this conference, it will be compared how PRMS and the Russian classification system area applied and the issues will be discussed that may further develop the harmonization between the systems.

The Workshop Program Committee involves the Russia’s and world’s best experts in petroleum resources estimation that represent the following state institutions, national and international petroleum companies: RF Ministry of Natural Resources, FGU State Commission on Mineral Reserves (GKZ), Lukoil, Rosneft, Gazprom, Novatek, Total, Chevron, BP, Texas A&M University and others.

The Program Committee is offering the following list of technical sessions:

  • Session I: 2007 PRMS: Building on Global Consensus (Development, review/major changes, major issues)
  • Session II: In Pursuit of the Common Code: Other Classification Systems: United Nations Framework Classification, SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) Classification and other.
  • Session III: Russian Classification of reserves and predicted oil and gas resources: development, major changes
  • Session IV: Methodology for Petroleum Reserves and Contingent Resources Estimation. Methods for ecomonical and technological feasibility (justification) of Oil Recovery factors.
  • Session V: Challenges in Reserves and Resources Estimation – Oil/Gas/Gas Condensate. Unconventional Reservoirs
  • Session VI: Deterministic vs Probabilistic Reserves
  • Session VII: Stakeholder Perspectives – Viewpoint of the State and Financial Institutions
  • Session VIII: Stakeholder Perspectives - Company Needs
  • Session IX: Other Issues.

About the PRMS Course Instructor:

John Etherington is Managing Director of PRA International Ltd., a Calgary-based consulting firm advising industry on resources assessment, reserves disclosures, and portfolio management processes. He previously spent over 32 years with Mobil Oil in Canada, USA, and international Exploration and Producing assignments including five years in Mobil’s central resources audit group.

John served on the SPE Oil and Gas Reserves Committee with primary responsibility for the 2006 mapping of major international petroleum resources classification systems and the 2007 PRMS project. He also coordinated SPE’s interface with the United Nations Framework Classification and the International Accounting Standards Board’s Extractive Activities projects. He was an SPE Distinguished lecturer in 2005/6, has presented papers on resources evaluation issues at AAPG, EAGE, SPE, and SPEE conferences, and conducted training for over 950 geoscientists and engineers from 40 countries.

 

Who should attend Workshop and Course of Lectures

The workshop is a limited attendance meeting for up to 100 people. This workshop and the course of lectures will be of interest to all who are concerned with the generation and reporting of reserves and resource estimates and their use in business operations.
